Mangos

Mangos.  Oh, sweet mangos.  Succulent, ripe, flavorful gifts from the gods…. and my fruity arch nemesis.  These little buggers are the toughest things to transform into neat, edible bites.  Is it just me?  I’ve had a whale of a time trying to transform them from the whole fruit state into little squares.  I have seem them nice and neat in the pre-cut produce section at the grocery store, but I’ve found it nearly impossible to achieve myself.

The biggest challenge is that gigantic pit in the center.  I have no idea which way it’s oriented, so when I try to make a nice slice, I wind up hitting the stupid thing and it ruins all my cuts from there on out.  I wind up with little slivers, which are tasty, but don’t have the look I desire.

This morning when I encountered this obstacle for the umpteenth time, I decided to go in search of a how-to guide to the mango.  It seems I was not alone in my quest to conquer the fickle fruit, and I found a few helpful articles to aid in the attack!  This one from Simple Recipes seems to be fairly straight forward.  The author points out I should be able to determine where the seed is, so I’ll have to try and look harder next time, I suppose… we’ll see how that works out for me.

My issue probably doesn’t warrant dedicating a blog post, but I’m counting on the slim chance you will empathize with my situation.

Speaking of fruit – this calls for a little Flight of the Conchords – Mutha’uckers
